Mac or PC
The project is written for a networked MAC but can easily be used on a PC. Code should be written in Word Pad on a PC. Every student in the school is given an account on the network with various software and space to save their documents. At the beginning of the project I have students set up a folder with the name of the project where they can keep everything for the web page including the simpletext document and gifs. Learning the basics of HTML helps students understand how web pages are coded.
Types of Students
A wide range of students will be able to complete this project both in age and ability range. This is a project for students from sixth grade through high school. It will teach basic HTML code and improve writing skills. This would be a wonderful project for ESL students.
Timeline
It can range from 3 to 10 days depending on the depth of the essay and level of student.
Assessment
Assessment is the end product. It can be valued by content and properly working HTML Code. Superior work will not only have excellent content, but an attractive page with gifs in appropriate places.. The work could be published on the internet.
Standards
Composition and good grammar are expected and demonstrated. In addtion, practical technical applications.
